Kip Anderson, the hard working, underpaid pain in the ass.....err I mean roaming interviewer for the UWL. UWL's own personal TMZ type guy and today he is hot on the trail of one former Heritage champion. No he's not after Robb Daniels but Joe Jones. Today he stopped by Joe's gym to see if he could track down the former champion.
Kip opens the front door and steps into the lobby of the gym slash office that Joe and Nanook have built. Behind the reception desk is the display case and it's all done up. In fact since we last saw the front room, the whole room has been finished. Marble floors. Cherry double doors. Cherry desk with granite countertop. A nice sofa and it goes on and on. The case behind the desk is filled with stuff from both Nanook's and Joe's past. Past championship titles, shirts, photo, boots, tights. Nanook's one piece Cow suit is on display when he went by the name Mesmar the Cow god. In the center of the case are a couple of things of note. The 2007 BLPW King of Philadelphia trophy that Joe holds near and dear to his heart and the BLPW World title wrapped around it. Joe's and Billy's Tag Team titles are flanking it on both sides with the tag team Coronation Cup trophy on the left with the Heritage title next to Joe's tag strap on the right with a photo of Joe in the ring with both titles hanging from his shoulders behind it. The display case takes up the whole wall and is laid out nice and tells a story of mostly Joe and Nanook. Behind the desk is a good looking blonde. She is rifling through some paper work and glances up at Kip as he walks into gym.
"Hello." She says. Her bubbly voice, black framed glasses and low cut blouse with ample melons peaking out tickles Kip's imagination in the deep recesses of his mind. He walks up to the desk and smiles. "Can I help you?" She asks.
In Kip's mind he knows what he wishes he could say but he keeps those kind of thoughts to himself. "Yes......I didn't catch your name."
"Oh! Sorry. I'm Summer."
"Summer! How nice. Summer I've been trying to find either Joe Jones or Nanook all week. Both of them haven't returned my calls."
"Oh! So you must be Kip? is it?"
"Yes!" The little inner school kid inside of Kip is jumping up and down going "She knows my name!!!! She knows my name!"
"I kept seeing your name pop up on the phone and wondering why Kim wouldn't answer his phone. He lives on the phone you know."
Puzzled look from Kip.
Summer spins and faces the small hallway to the offices "Kim. Sweetie. Kip is here."
"Who the F*** is Kim?" Kip thinks to himself. Kip looks in the direction that Summer is looking and stepping out of his office is Nanook. Nanook with his hands in his pockets has a dirty look for Kip, a look of "Serious dude? I don't want to talk to you! Go away!" But Nanook quickly fakes a smile.
"Kip. I see you meet my wife Summer."
Kip looks at Summer. Looks at Nanook. Looks at Summer. Mind Blown. Nanook is seven foot tall, 400 pounds, going bald and Kip has seen him in the back at shows digging into the spread put out by catering and he looks at Summer who is a 10. She could be in Playboy this very second and it just doesn't make sense to him. How could a fat pig like Nanook get a drop dead beauty like her? Kip says nothing.
"So!" Summer goes. "I couldn't find that paper work that Jane said was here. I'll have to go find her and ask her where it is. So I'll leave you two boys alone okay?"
Nanook smiles and nods. "I'll be okay Honey."
"I know. Play nice you two!" Summer says as she slips past her husband and into the gym and disappears. Nanook strolls out into the room and Kip is still putting his mind back together.
"So...huh....Kim?" Kip goes.
"We're not friends so don't you ever call me that."
"Okay. Fine. So Nanook where is Joe Jones?"
"I don't know."
"You don't know? Don't give me that. Where is he?"
Nanook shrugs. "Like I said. I don't know. I haven't seen him, haven't talked to him, I can't even track him down since Saturday night. He hasn't been here. He hasn't been at his apartment. I even had a buddy check his place in Miami. I can't find him."
"You? Can't find Joe?"
Nanook shakes his head. "Yeah. I can't find him. It's not like I haven't tried either. I have spent all week looking for him. Can't find him. His phone is off, hell I have his phone so. I don't know where he is."
"Does he know he has a match this week against Sean Landon?"
"I have no idea."
"Do you know how he felt about how he lost the title? Did you talk to him..."
Nanook shakes his head. "I haven't talked to him Kip. I have no idea what is going through his mind."
Kip taps his fingers on the countertop of the desk. "Is he going to show up for the show."
Nanook shrugs again. "Your guess is as good as mine. I've known Joe a real long time. I've been around him his whole career. I mean his whole career. I've seen ever match that guy has had. I've been there for every title won, every title lost, the whole ten yards. I have never seen him after a loss like that. Never. I was even standing in the room listening in on his conversation with is cousin Steve when Steve threaten to kill him for selling his half of the company and that was a guy in lock up for attempted murder. Joe just brushed it off like it was nothing. When Direct TV sued him and tried to take every nickel he had....." Nanook shakes his head and shrugs. "Nothing. The only time I saw him like this was when Health killed himself. They were close those two. He took that hard. He was in a dark place for a while. He left the business for a while after that Kip."
"Do you think that might be the last time we see him?"
Nanook sighs. "You tell me Kip."
Kip looks at Nanook who is dead serious. His mind is racing with all sorts of thought and the story he will write when he leaves here. "Man." is all he says. Nanook says nothing.
