Nashville.
The show must go on and fresh from the holiday break, Steve would book tours through the south where the ESW had a pretty faithful following. Plus the “winters” in the south were much easier to deal with than back home in upstate NY. It was time to get the new years started and get some stuff in the can for ESW’s flagship show Mayhem and Nashville was always a good bet for great fan reactions.
Up in the “booth” where Nanook and Howdy call the matches from, Nanook was getting ready for the night, looking over his notes and getting ready to settle in for sound check and run through everything. It was his job to set up the audio for all of the tapings and he is checking his connections and what not when Steve, aka Chamber strolls into the “booth”, which most of the time was just a table up in the stands or upper deck. But here in Nashville, they actually get to use one of the inclosed box seats.
“Nanny!” Steve’s growls with his low baritone voice. Nanook looks over his shoulder with his glasses at the end of his nose.
“Steve.” Nanook says as he pauses doing his checks and looking over his notes at the same time. As Steve sits down, Nanook can tell he is, shall we say annoyed. Steve wears his feelings on his sleeve for the whole world to see. “What’s up?”
“You know what I just heard?”
Nanook shakes his head no.
“My dickhead brother is starting his own deal in Japan!”
Nanook raises an eyebrow. He thought only he had that sort of info and he hasn’t told Steve about it either, so this comes as a huge surprise for Nanook.
“Really?” Nanook says as he removes his glasses and sets them down on on his notebook.
“Yup. He’s been stashing guy out there. Can you believe that? I’m paying him to scout for new fresh talent to bring here before anyone else gets their hands on them, and he’s been keeping them all for himself and now he’s going to start his own company and go toe to toe with New Japan.”
“Well, let’s be realistic for a second. That is a huge company to take down. I doubt Michael has that sort of deal…”
“He’s inking a TV deal tomorrow. He’s been holding shows for almost 6 months now!” Steve says and he is pissed.
So is Nanook as Michael didn’t mention any of this to him. The gears start to turning. Maybe someone else is playing Steve.
“Where did you hear this from?”
“Fucking Joe! He was offered a deal to go and work for him. Had to give him a new deal just to keep him. I’m not letting my brother steal my nephew.”
Nanook bites his tongue. He doesn’t show it, but he is boiling inside, so pissed about this new news. Nanook chooses to not say anything, and sometimes it was the wise move when Steve was in one of these moods.
Steve slams his fist on the table. “You know what! Fuck it! I’m flying out there to confront this fucking backstabbing motherfucker myself! He ain’t stealing my guys to fill his show! I’m leaving in the morning!”
“Okay.”
“Till I get back. You’re in charge!”
“Not a problem. I’ll hold the fort down.”
“We’ve got 2 nights to tape, that should be 4 shows.”
“I know Steve.”
“Next weekend, We’re in Virginia for another 2 nights.”
“Yup.”
“I should be back in time for Kick Ass Inc. Just make shit happen. I’ve got to deal with this myself.”
“Okay. I’ve got this. Don’t worry about it.”
“Good. Good. Glad to know I can trust you. I’m sorry for dumping this in your lap, but, fuck. Just when you think you know someone, they just try to fuck you over.”
“Yeah. I know what you mean.” Nanook says.
Steve stands and looks down at Nanook. He nods and exits the booth. Nanook snaps the pencil he had in his hand in half.
“God damn you Joe….” He mumbles to himself……..
Present Day
OCW Performance Center.
The PC is full of OCW students today still feeling the buzz from OCWTV from the other night. They are joking, training, talking shit, normal stuff. Everyone except one person.
Nanook
As required to show up for class by his employer, Joe Jones, Nanook is sitting in the stands by himself. He’s been in the biz for over 20 years now, he doesn’t need to attend Wrestling 101 classes, but was told it would “improve his skill set.” Either way, This gave Nanook some time and space to collect his thoughts. To plot his revenge and decide what to do with the mask..
The adventure with Bester at Social Justice is proving to be paying off for him. Bester has thanked him several times and is texting and calling him several times a day, and Nanook drops whatever he is doing to take the call, answer the text. He is slowly rebuilding Bester’s trust in him, one text and phone call at a time. He has also been able to get some dirt on Joe through Bester without Bester getting all weird about sharing his feelings to him.
Come to find out, Bester now blames Joe for Death March. Blames Joe for making him crazy and ditching his OGDA mask. And that there is a search for the mask being spearheaded by a small loyal group of Rainbow Warriors who want to return and restore OGDA, but they are unable to locate the mask. He could return the mask to him as a gift, he knows that would get him securely back in the good graces of Bester and while this would annoy Joe, it wouldn't help Nanook in getting his company back.
No, what he needs is something dastardly. Something that will make Bester lose his ever loving mind, snap on Joe and more importantly, be able to use Bester a speed bump against Chamber. Return the mask. Restore OGDA’s magical powers, defeat Chamber and that will see Nanook back in charge of his company, ESM.
Just then there is shouting as a fight breaks out in the PC. This snaps Nanook of this trance he had as he was running a couple of scenarios through his mind. A couple of students are holding this one guy back, a huge guy. A walking fucking wall of a man. And he’s pissed for some reason or another. It’s taking like 8 guys to hold him back.
“Well now.” Nanook mumbles to himself.
