With one in the books Double J is settling into his apartment he picked up just outside of Knoxville minutes away from Gatlinburg to save some money on not flying back and forth from Miami every week. It’s a small one bedroom apartment, nothing fancy and more importantly it was cheap. The kitchen and living room part of the apartment is basically a open floor design with a island separating the two. The kitchen is real basic. Fridge, stove, some cabinets, sink. Nothing to write home about. The living room is for the most part empty with just a small cheap couch Joe picked up at a second hand shop, cheap TV stand from Wal Mart and a basic 32“ TV and a run of the mill DVD player. He hasn’t even had cable hooked up yet.
Joe is at the island which is doubling as his office. Joe has his bills laid out on the counter as he balances his check book. Double J is running the numbers on his calculator when there is a knock at the door. He takes off his reading glasses and sets them down on his paper work....
JJ “Who is it?”
The door opens and walks in Nanook. “Who do you think it is? You don’t know anyone around here so who would come see you?”
JJ “The Chase mastercard guy? I dunno.”
Nanook closes the door behind him and tosses his briefcase on the couch. “SO how does it feel?”
JJ “How does what feel?” Joe puts his glasses back on and turns back to his bills and his calculator.
Nanook “You know...the big win last night!”
Joe shrugs. “I’m sure I pissed Dameon off to no end stealing that win last night.”
Nanook “I know! That was freaking awesome.”
JJ “I’ll admit it felt real good f*cking that dude over.”
Nanook “The look on his face was just priceless. He had no idea what happened. One second he was going for the pin, the next you were throwing him out of the ring and getting the 1,2,3! I swear to god that guy was going to cry.”
JJ “I don’t know about that. Erupt maybe. Cry no.”
Clearly Joe doesn’t seem as excited by how he won as Nanook is. To Nanook it was like Joe kicked Dameon in the balls like 5 times real hard.
Nanook “What’s wrong?”
Crunching some numbers.. JJ “Nothing’s wrong.”
Nanook “Just the other day you hated Dameon. You sounded like you wanted to rip his throat out and stomp on it. You screwed him out of a win and you act like it was no big deal.”
JJ “Well I’m not going to throw a party because I beat some second rate has been and a complete moron in the Great Managuini. Today I rest up, I take a look at my check book.” Joe takes his glasses off and sets them down on his paper work. “Luckily the UWL is paying a decent dollar so at this rate I will have the money I need to pay the taxes in no time. It’s nice to be working somewhere where they have a show every week, not once every 2-3 months you know. Tomorrow I get ready for my next match. Unlike yesterday this week will be a real challenge.”
Nanook “Who? Caleb Hart? A challenge?”
Joe crosses his arms. “He is where I was a couple of years ago. I was coming off a big knee injury. I haven’t been in the ring for over a year and half, everyone thought my career was over with but in my heart I knew it wasn’t. I was hungry, hungry to compete, to win, to get my career back on track and to win some gold. No one was going to get in my way, no one. I know what Hart is feeling. He knows in his heart he’s not done, he has more to prove. There’s a lot of fight left in the guy and no one is going to stop him from achieving his goal. Didn’t you watch his match? This week.....this week is going to be tough.”
Nanook “I don’t know Joey. I think you’re giving this Caleb Hart way too much credit. That guy has won as many matches as you have.”
Joe puts his glasses back on and looks down at his paper work. “I never said I couldn’t beat him. I just said it’ll be a challenge.”
Nanook “Ah Joey. I’ve seen you rip guys like this apart in mere seconds Joey. This Caleb Hart, He retired almost 7 years ago and there’s a reason for that. Maybe he just wasn’t that good. But what do I know.” Nanook picks up his briefcase and makes his way towards the door. “Oh by the way I’ve lined up another interview with Kip again for you this week.”
JJ “Alright.”
Nanook “I’ve got to go. Going to take a trip to Dollywood, gunna see if I can play with those big old titties of Dolly.”
JJ “Yeah good luck with that.”
Nanook opens the door and turns back towards Joe one more time. “Seriously thou. This Hart guy. You’ve got this. He’s nothing.”
Joe looks up over the top of his glasses and smirks. “I know he is.”
