Hickory NC...
Uncle Ned's Farm...
The second cutting for the summer is all done and now it is time to pack the barn full of hay bails for the winter. Billy has spent all week throwing hay bails and stacking them in the barn on his uncle's farm. Since he couldn't go home since mom kicked him out he has been staying with Uncle Ned in a old camper he had out back. Plus Ned was thankful for the help since he hurt his hip a couple years back although this year has been tough for Ned. Billy spent just about the whole year away from the farm. He spent months in England and then he spent a month in Canada, but he returned home in time to help Ned with the hay bails.
The old flat bed pick up truck Ned uses to move the bails from the field to the barn is stacked pretty high with hay bails and Billy is slowly unloading them and stacking them for the winter. Billy reaches for another bail, slipping his gloved hands under the twine when his phone rings. Nanook got Billy a cell phone which might not be a big deal to all of us, but for Billy it's a big deal. A phone that's not hanging on the wall! You have got to be kidding me.
Billy answers his smart phone. "Hello?"
Billy wipes his forehead with the sleeve of his shirt. "Okay. Now where is this? Knoxville? Like Tennessee? Okay. I'll see you dere."
Billy finishes his call and stuffs his phone back in his pocket just as Uncle Ned walks up to him with a ice cold can of Bud and hands it to Billy.
"Thanks."
Ned leans up against the cab of the truck while working on his can of Bud. "Who there was dat?" Ned asks.
Billy pops the top on his can. "Nanook."
"What dat feller what?"
Billy is hiding his excitement. Nanook delivered good news to him but he knows that his uncle needs help on the farm but Billy wants to get back in the ring. He misses it. He hasn't been in the ring in nearly 3 weeks now and he has a itch to get back in the ring. He has had only 2 matches in his "career" but he is hooked and wants more. "He found me work Uncle Ned." He finally says.
"Where at?"
"Knoxville."
Uncle Ned says nothing but takes another drink of Bud. "I see. You still think you can make a living from that wrassling stuff?"
Billy knows he can. For having only 2 matches in Canada he was paid pretty good for it. More money than he has ever been paid before, which really wasn't hard to beat. "Yeah Uncle Ned. Took at der TV I got. Aunt Louise....."
Before Billy can gloat about the TV, Ned interrupts him. "It took you over a year to buy dat there TV. You know how much bitchin' I had to deal with during that time?"
"I know but how much bitchin' you gettin' now Uncle Ned?"
"True."
"And Uncle Ned. Tennessee isn't that far away. I can come back during the week and help you out on the farm."
"True."
"I have to go next week. Nanook says he got's me a match. A tag match with his friend. Joe.....Joe something. He has a gym and everything in Knoxville. He's going to help me get better Ned. Shoot if I get better than I'll make some real money Ned. Enough for a TV in every room of the trailer! Hell we could even get one fer the barn while milking! I could even buy a new John Deere Uncle Ned!"
"Could. Dat there be a word dat don't mean much."
"I've got to try Uncle Ned. I've gots nuttin to lose."
Ned finishes his beer and sets the can on the roof of the truck. "True." he says before walking off. Billy downs his beer and tosses the can off into the corner of the barn after crushing it in his hand. "You'll see Uncle Ned. You'll see."
Sunday morning and coming off his match with Justin Brooks, Double J finds himself in the gym early the next day as he is pulling double duty for this weeks show, Nightmare. He has a anything goes match against Alan Christopher and a Tag Team title match with Nanook's new kid. On one hand he's glad to get a shot at the titles, but on the other hand his partner for the match isn't Frankie Cocheese.
Joe is in his gym after his morning jog and has just finished stretching and is getting ready to hit some weights. Outside is Nanook who pulls up in his Cadillac Escalade parking next to Joe's BMW. With him is NASCAR Billy and they climb out his Caddy and Billy stands in front of the building which still looks run down on the outside.
"This is it?" Billy asks.
Nanook walks up next to him with one hand in a pocket and the other on his phone. "Yup!" Nanook says as he checks his phone.
"Gee Mister. They way you talked about this guy you'd think he'd have a better place you know. My high school has a better looking gym."
Nanook snickers and puts his phone back in his pocket. "Yeah well, I just bought this place. We just started putting money in it. It'll take a while but it'll get there by the time we're done. Wait and see. Come on let's meet him."
Inside Joe heard them pulling up and he knew what that meant. Despite the fact that he was against this whole ordeal there was nothing he could do to stop it. He hears the front door open and hears the footsteps of Nanook, he's heavy on his feet and has a thump to his walk. He hears someone behind him and can only guess that it's his new kid of his. Keeping his back to them he takes a deep breath.
"Joe?" Nanook asks as he stops like 10 feet before the ring where Joe is standing at. Billy stands next to Nanook and stares at Joe.
"Yeah?"
"How ya doing? That was a rough match last night. You okay?"
Joe nods. "Been better."
Nanook snaps his fingers and slaps his fist into the palm of his fist. "So......" Nanook begins with. No need to beat around the bush anymore. "I brought the kid here today so you can meet him. Maybe work out with him? Train together? I don't know. You two do have a match together this week. For the tag straps...i don't know if I mentioned that before. Maybe you two can come together or bond or something."
Billy looks at Nanook and back at Joe. Joe still hasn't turned around to look at the kid.
"Now now this kid. He's just starting out Joe. He's only had 2 matches. But he's had two real good matches. huh he....he faced the Yakamoto sisters and beat them in his first match. His second match he faced Greyson. He lost but it was a good fight though. You remember Rayne?"
Nothing from Joe.
"I sent this kid to England to Rayne and Mad Cyril. They trained him."
Billy then felt the need to say something. "I was der fer a year. They'd worked me hard."
Joe sighs. He's not happy about this but he knows the training that Mad Cyril and Rayne put their students through. This kid must have been somewhat good to get their approval. Still though, this is this kids 3rd match. Lucky him. "What's your name?" Joe finally asks.
Billy looks at Nanook quick and Nanook nods telling Billy to go ahead.
"My name is Billy sir. Nanook here gave me the name of Nascar Billy."
Joe lowers his head and shakes it. "Nascar Billy?"
"Yes sir. It's a real pleasure to meet you. Nanook has told so much about you." Billy says as he holds his hand out for a hand shakes and starts to walk towards Joe.
"There is no need to hug it out kid and I ain't shaking your hand either."
Billy stops in his tracks. "Excuse me?"
"I'm not shaking your hand kid. You have to earn that. Just because we're teaming up this week don't make us friends."
"Okay?"
Billy is at a lost as what to do next. He turns and looks at Nanook and Nanook nods to Billy telling him to come back and stand next to him. "So I'll leave you two alone so you can get to know one another. I'll be back later."
Joe cuts Nanook off "You can take the kid with you. I'm not feeing it this today. I think I'm going take a day off. You're right that was a rough match last night."
Billy crosses his arms. He knows Joe is blowing him off and doesn't like it one bit.
"Maybe tomorrow I can work with Nascar Wily...."
"It's Billy, Joe. Nascar Billy."
"Like it matters. It's a god damn fucking stupid name. I'd imagine him being a Nascar fan I have to ask if he has all his teeth or not. If he's gots fake teeth you might want to tell him to take them out for the match."
Nanook looks at Billy who's face is bright red. Nanook puts his hand on his shoulder and looks him in the eye.
"I don't know what you were doing in Canada but I'm thinking that's where the has beens go there to die. Greyson Blaze, Hoshi, Kira, they haven't done anything in years. They were bums back in New York and their bums now. I wouldn't brag about beating any of them. This place will quickly weed out the boys from the men kid. You might want to grow up this week and leave your stupid hats at home. Get yourself a real name. This isn't Nascar kid. No one is going around in circles here. Got it?"
Billy is pissed. "Got it!" He fires back with a tone in his voice that he's not happy.
"Best be going now."
"Yeah! No problem!"
Before Nanook can even think about smoothing this over Billy is gone, marching out of the gym. Joe chuckles as Nanook glares at him.
"You could have been nice to the kid! He was real excited to meet you too."
Joe turns around "That kid is going to get hurt! He's too starry eyed for this Nanny and you know this! If he walks out of that ring without getting killed....you will owe me."
"Later this week we're having a interview with Kip! You better be there!"
Nanook starts to leave himself a little muffed at Joe. Joe smirks. "We'll see."
