Times Square in NYC on a Friday night and in middle of the chaos is one Double J Joe Jones is standing in front of the One Times Square building where they drop the ball on New years eve. Joe has his hands in his pockets as he looks up at the building all light up at night.
"Damn it feels good to be back here. My second home. My old stomping grounds. I've spent most of my career here in the northeast traveling up and down the highway from Philly to NYC and back again. Maybe now that the UWL is spreading it's wings and branching outwards maybe we'll head north on I90 and make a stop in Albany. That would be awesome but right now it feels awesome to be back here. It feels nice not to be sweating my f*cking balls off for once. Good lord does it get f*cking hot in Tennessee. You can tell that fall is coming up here in the north. You can smell it in the air."
Joe closes his eyes and takes a deep breath. After a second or two he opens his eyes and turns around putting his back to the building. It's busy as hell in Times Square here tonight. Thousand of people packing the place taking in the sights and sounds.
"And there isn't a better place to have a match against Wolf Parker than here in New York. When I try to make sense of Wolf Parker, this is what I picture if we took him and cut open his head to look in his brain. A place of bright flashing lights, a thousand and one conversations all going on at once and total chaos going on. Looking down at this mess it doesn't make any sense at all. Why does everyone flock here anyways? It's just one huge tourist trap, a bunch of greedy companies just looking to over charge you this and that. There really isn't anything here. The ticker? Big deal. Watching the ball drop? Who cares. And once you're here in middle of this all you really want to do is get out of here without getting killed. And yet, I bet Wolf Parker would feel completely at home here. I can see him pitching a tent next to the naked cowboy and not giving it a second thought."
Joe wets his lips as he looks around. While he loves spending time in the city, Times Square isn't the place he likes to be in.
"This place is much like you Parker. Overrated. Yeah I know I shouldn't drop the whole you're overrated line on you because quite frankly what have you done here in the UWL besides be the resident gnat. But this guy says I'm unsure of what I want to do......Until I called you out last week Parker what in the world were you doing?" Joe nods his head as he says "NOTHING! We haven't seen you in a couple of weeks and in this sport if you lay low sooner than later you will be forgotten about. No one around the UWL was talking about you. No one was calling you out. No one was walking around in the back in fear that the big bad Wolf Parker was going to jump them. Since our last match against Hart, everyone has moved on. Hart is tracking down the Heritage title and do you think he's looking over his shoulder to see if you're there? Nope. And other than this match to settle a old score, I haven't given two F***s about you and what you have going on. In fact you should be glad that I even came out and said that I was a fan our yours because it's not like you see any signs at the show, people protesting their love for Wolf Parker. "
Joe stops and just laughs. He rubs the side of his face and smirks.
"You know Parker I tried to pay you a compliment the other day. I gave you some props even thought right now we don't see eye to eye and we have some business to settle, I still admire your work and what you do in the ring. Now I don't know what goes on inside that head of yours but if you think that I'm reinventing myself because I broke face and wasn't all "F*** you Parker and the bus you rode in on" than you clearly don't know me at all. I don't look at you all starry eyed and want your autograph as soon as our match is with. I'm not out of line or crazy to blame you for costing me a win over Hart. If I'm not mistaken it was you who flew off the top rope with the steel chair and landed on Hart thus getting me DQ'ed. It was you who shoved me off the ring apron that ended up giving Hart the opening to kick you in the face and get the win. I don't know how in a three way match one can distract one of his 2 opponents so the other guy can get a cheap win but what ever. You see shit your way and everyone else sees it a completely different way. All I know is this. All of the issues I had in beating Hart in our last 3 matches all had one common factor. You. Do I have to bring up that tag match with Troy Vincent when you just walked out of the match?"
Joe's face starts to turn red as he remembers how that match went down.
"You can say allot of thing about me Parker but I have never quit during a match. I'm not a quitter like you are. I haven't been at home for the last couple of weeks wondering what to do. I keep grinding away. I keep digging to get what I want and what I want is that TV title. You're right. I am obsessive. I will obsess over that belt till I get my name on it. I will obsess over beating Hart till I get my hand raised in victory over him. I have a plan unlike you. But desperate? Nope. That would be all you buddy. I'm not the one dropping Justin Brooks name because he mentioned me in one of his promos. I can care less what Justin Brooks thinks of me. Someday our paths will cross and then and only then I will tell and show mister Brooks of what I think of him. Everyone can see right through what you did there Parker. You heard Brooks drop your name and you went on the attack. I'm surprised you just didn't call him out, issue him a challenge. Or are you too scared to? I'm not afraid to call out big bad Brooks. He puts his pants on the same way I do. You see Parker you want so badly to be the man around here it is sickening. You want that real bright star so badly that you can almost taste it as it is just out of reach. If you could only just jump and grab on to it. What you want, you can't deliver. I know you want to beat me, to have a win to hold over my head, but that won't happen. You don't always get what you want in life Parker. And why is that? Because you will always just come up short. No doubt you will do what you do best. Just roll out of the ring and stand there with a crazed look on your face and do.....nothing. Because you're a quitter. A failure. Absolutely nothing."
Joe wets his lips again.
"I'm done with being a nice guy and paying you a compliment. You can wish all you want on how you want to beat me all you want, that's not going to happen. You can also wish all you want about seeing my head on a stick.... I've seen you in the showers.....a small twig comes to mind and that....just ain't going to happen. See you tomorrow night Parker."
Joe starts to walk away when he pauses and looks back at the camera.
"If you show up. I know how you're distracted by bright lights and shiny things."
