Back home in Miami soaking in some sun is where we find Double J Joe Jones today, standing on his deck that over looks the beach checking his phone. Joe smirks and fires off a tweet. He then sets his phone down on the railing.
"Justin Brooks. He never saw it coming. Robb Daniels. He never saw it coming. No one saw it coming. But it happened Saturday night. Frankie took back his title and the future of the UWL happened. Call it whatever you want. A new super group. A new power hungry duo. I don't care but Saturday night in New York City, we injected the UWL with new life. The old guard of the UWL has just been put on notice."
Joe's phone buzzes as he got a text from Frankie and Joe checks it.
"12 years in this sport and I've been everywhere in this world. I've been to Japan and back and held titles in some of the greatest cities in America. The UWL isn't my first rodeo and I doubt it will be my last. Everywhere I've worked prior to the UWL, what you have done in your career mattered. We all have a past. Each and every single one of us all have a story. We all have had "that" match before, "that" match that lives in lore in some corner of the world. It's those kind of matches, championships that help build your hype, your legacy in this sport. That is two things no one can take away from you. The things you have done in your career, that is your resume. Getting hired in some hick town in middle of f*cking Tennessee with my resume wasn't hard at all. Every place I stopped at I have only added to my resume, and I plan on adding to my resume here in the UWL."
Joe fires back a text and sets his phone back down.
"It pisses me off that some of the old timers in the UWL, the JB's, the Robb Daniels hell throw in Scarlet Jay for all I care. It pisses me off that these dinosaurs stomping around in the back and throw out lines like "You can't hang with this group." "you're not used to this level.""Out classed" "In over your head." . Well Justin move the F*** over at the grown up table and pass me the potatoes and let me tell you a story, the story of a man who is driven to be great. A man that will do whatever it takes to get what he wants. A man that is here in the UWL to only add to his legacy. You see Justin you can sit there and be all pissed all you want and you can tell yourself that I don't belong in whatever picture you think this is. Like I said this isn't my first rodeo, I have been the face of a federation. I have been the most hated man in promotion. I've been on national TV long before the UWL even dreamed of getting on FSN slamming chumps like you to the mat and hoisting gold in the air for all to see. Just because I'm not 300 plus pounds of cattle enriched steroid meat doesn't mean that I can't be the man around here. You claim I don't know you, well clearly you have no idea who I am. What I can do, will do. Since day one I have been looked down upon. I have been doubted and second questioned and at the end of the day, it was me that had the last laugh. It was me who was standing tall and looking down on the sea of doubters. You Brooks is nothing but one of those doubters. Go ahead and puff out your chest and make idle threats. Take that fist of yours and thump it against your chest. It won't work. I'm not afraid of you. I told you I would let my actions do my speaking or did you forget that?"
We take a look back to last week......
First Justin Brooks dropped this nugget of information...
“So enjoy the company of Wolf Parker and Joe Jones, two guys who couldn't even hold Caleb Hart's jock when he was the Television Championship. Maybe you'll do for them like you did for Autumn Raven and put them a shade above obscurity while you continue to ride that less than stellar World Title reign into mediocrity.” - Justin Brooks
It was Wolf Parker who was the first to nibble on what Brooks said.
"But regardless what the champion Justin Brooks has to say about you or I, Jones...regardless of what he thinks since he can't decide whether Frankie is a good former champion, or a shitty one. Since Justin Brooks can't decide if we're good athletes or we can't hold a candle to Caleb Hart..." - Wolf Parker
And lastly Joe came back with this in response to all of it.
"I have a plan unlike you. But desperate? Nope. That would be all you buddy. I'm not the one dropping Justin Brooks name because he mentioned me in one of his promos. I can care less what Justin Brooks thinks of me. Someday our paths will cross and then and only then I will tell and show mister Brooks of what I think of him." - Joe Jones
Back to present day.
"I guess our paths, they crossed sooner than later huh Brooks? I think we're past the whole I'll show you why you don't want to get on my wrong side because I came down to the ring Saturday night, you remember Saturday night, the night you lost the title and bitched slapped you right across the face. There was no warning shot. I don't F*** around. No need to dance around the subject. There are conquenses for having the nerve to say my name in disparaging ways. Just consider that a hard learned lesson Brooks. Next time, I won't be so....nice."
Joe picks up his bottle of water and takes a quick sip.
"Then there is Robb Daniels. The boy and his book, so excited by this tag match this week that he had to send out the "Hey Guys, Mainstream reunion" tweet. Like that is supposed to make me shake in my boots, piss my pants and beg for mercy. I'm actually impressed that you had the nerve to stand in the ring and cash in your shot at the World title the second there was a new UWL World Champion crowned. You see at first you weren't part of the plan, you weren't suppose to be there in that ring. But you were there and you became collateral damage. Hey, whatever. This was bound to happen at one point. You won the Cup and that grants you a shot at the title so that beating you took Saturday night, was going to happen regardless. Look on the bright side, you get to relive the lone thing you are remembered for in the UWL, the Mainstream! The Mainstream must have been a glorious thing back in the day....did you just catch that Robb? Back in the day because that is what you say when something is old news and ancient history. You and Brooks and who ever "back in the day" might have ruled the roost around here, I'm guessing because there was no one worth a damn in the UWL to stand up and fight you guys, but those days are long gone Robb. The Mainstream it ended up going under much like the Frontline and the Gray did. I'm guessing the only guys left from the Mainstream is just you and Brooks, and you two represent the old UWL. The depression era UWL, when it was free access public TV and you hardly left the state of Tennessee and no one outside that circle of fans ever heard of the Mainstream. Now with the UWL on Fox Sports 1 beaming it show to a world audience in prime time, the world will see the future of the UWL. They will see the World champion Frankie Cocheese and one Double J Joe Jones, and they will see them beating the old dirty dusty past of the UWL into the mat, burying it forever where it belongs. Much like how you two don't care what we've done in other places before the UWL, the new fans of the UWL, the fans who never saw a UWL show on the west coast, in Brazil, Europe and all across China, they don't care what you did in the UWL for the past 4 years. To them, you're just some old dudes hanging on to a dream and a idea."
"After this weekend, the lasting memory that anyone will have of the Mainstream is that it got ran over by the future of the UWL. It will be dead and forgotten about when we get done with you two. See you in the ring."
Joe picks up his phone and heads back in his place. Fade out.
