The scene opens up inside of Joe's gym just outside of Knoxville in the lobby slash receptionist area where behind the desk is the trophy case full of all sorts of stuff, like the current UWL Tag Team titles and this year Tag Team Coronation cup. Also tucked away in the case are other belts and what not but today, this week two old championships are sticking out as Joe Jones stands behind the desk looking into the case. His hands are clasp behind him as he gases up at everything he has accomplished in his career.
"I've been in the UWL for almost a year now. I think it's been a good year. It started out slow. The whole thing with Caleb Hart, getting wrapped up in the battle with the Grey and what not. I had promise. That's what everyone said. They said to keep on a eye on me because I was going to go places. It was rough at first. Not what I thought was going to going down. I don't know why I decided to help Angelo to this day but getting mixed up in the whole thing with the Front line and the Grey was a mistake. I was just finding my way out of Vegas where I wasn't working every week like I am here in the UWL and yeah, I had some ring rust. No matter how much you train, if you don't get in that ring week in and week out you end up loosing some of the edge you once had. You're not as sharp as you used to be and you have to grind through it and get that back. All those guys in the Grey, they all have been tearing it up in the UWL at that point and here I come waltzing in thinking I was going to even the score."
Joe chuckles and shakes his head.
"Jesus the last time I was in the ring was like, 3 months before I joined the UWL. Eh it worked out in the end. I took my bumps. Got knocked down a few times and just dusted myself off and kept pushing on ward. I made some waves in the Coronation cup last summer. I got myself into the title scene and on the lips of everyone in the UWL. I made a friend in Cocheese and ended up picking up the tag titles and before last year came to a close picked up the Heritage title. I can't complain about my first year here in the UWL. Well if there was one thing I could bitch about it would be one thing."
Joe cracks his knuckles and he slowly wags his finger at one of the titles in the case.
"You see that belt right there? That belt is the ESW Television championship. That was my first title I won in the ESW which as we all know by now, my cousin Steve once ran with a iron fist. We all know this story because he won't shut up about it but I digress, my cousin hasn't had anything to celebrate since 2001 so running a company for 7 years is a huge accomplishment for him. Even if it was like 5 years ago. But that belt right there. Back in the day that title was the number 2 title in the company. Almost everyone who held that title went on to hold the World title where you would end up getting screwed out of the title because my knucklehead of a cousin would wake up one day and go, "You know so and so, they suck as my champion! They can't be the face of the company! I need to fix this!" Yeah I know. We currently see the same thing happening else where but to Steve's credit, he was doing that way before everyone else."
Joe clasps his hands behind his back again.
"I fought and defeated a young cocky Angelo Valour for that title and when I defeated Valour for that title it was huge in the ESW. At that time there were two guys who were killing it in the ESW at that time. They beat everyone. One guy was a dude named Slipstream. Angelo might flip his lid to hear this but Slipstream was better than he was. He was the top guy in the company hands down. Angelo was the other guy who won and won and beat everyone. When I defeated Angelo I took that from him and at the time Angelo was the TV champion for a unheard of record of 210 days. He was not only the longest reigning TV Champion but the longest reigning champion of any title in the ESW, by like miles. Slipstream was a 5 time ESW World champion but none of his reigns came close to what Angelo accomplished with the TV title. Believe it or not they were making plans for when he hit the one year mark. They had a countdown going, they knew what show it was going to happen on and they had huge things in store for when Angelo held onto the TV title for a year. Hell there was talks that they were thinking about retiring that belt in honor of what Angelo did. No one thought he was going to be beaten for it so when I defeated him for the title, it made waves in the company. In the span of 3 seconds suddenly Angelo Valour could be defeated. He could be beaten and I proved he was a mortal man."
Joe pauses and stares at the title for a second remembering what it felt to beat Angelo at that time.
"That was the birth of me suddenly proving to everyone that I could win any match. I took down Rayne. I walked into Philly and was crowned King when no one thought I could. I took down the undefeated NC-17. I went toe to toe with the very best not only in the ESW but in the BLPW. I won the tag titles in Philly, the World title in Philly and then I came back to the ESW and won that."
Next to the TV title is the ESW Survivor title.
"Next to the World title, that was the most coveted title in the ESW. You were no one unless you held onto that title. And I won it. I took down 3 times Survivor champion Christian Pierce to get my hands on it. When I got my hands on that I started to eye the World title and become a Grand Slam Champion myself. I thought I was on my way to etch my name in the history books along with Slipstream and Valour but....something happened. Someone stopped me. Stopped me cold."
Joe's face starts to turn red just thinking about it now.
"The owner of the company woke up one day and declared that no one was fit enough to hold the World title in his company anymore and he was going to step back in the ring and teach everyone in the company how it was done. He was going to show everyone how to dominate a roster and what a true champion looked like. He left Sick Nick in charge and the mighty Chamber returned to the ring. After one match he gave himself a shot at the Survivor title. My title."
Sporting a scowl Joe slowly turns around turning his back on all of his titles.
"I don't know why I didn't see it back then but my cousin pulled a Montreal Screw job on me back in 2008. I swear I kicked out before the 3 count. I swear it but in a instant I lost my title to fucking Steve! And then just like that.....he didn't have the need to teach the whole roster a lesson anymore. He only needed to teach me a lesson only it wasn't a lesson."
Joe places his hands on the top of the desk and slightly leans on them looking down at the desk top. He then slowly looks up at the camera.
"He was jealous. Jealous that I won what I won in Philly. Jealous that it was me who ended Valour's streak and not him. I was in the spotlight and not him. Everyone was quickly forgetting about him and was starting to view him as the bat shit crazy owner who threw fits when shit didn't go his way. I was becoming the star of the family now. I was slowly taking his spotlight from him and he couldn't handle the fact that everyone was talking about me and not him. People started to fear seeing me standing across the ring from them and not him. So he sought to end that! He tried to ruin my reputation and legacy by embarrassing me inside that ring."
Joe stands up straight.
"But that didn't happen back in 08. Everyone saw right through you Steve and when you laid down 4 weeks later to the fucking Eagle! THE EAGLE STEVE!!!! You lost to the god damn Eagle! A guy who hasn't been seen since and won 3 fucking matches in the ESW!!! YOU LOST TO THAT GUY!"
Joe can't help but shake his head and laugh a little. The Eagle was a protected champion once he won the Survivor title. He was given hand picked weak opponents and some how ended up being the champion for 84 days.
"You didn't embarrass me Steve. You just made yourself look like a jack ass. And here we are again in 2014, you tracked me all the way to Tennessee just when I was starting to put together a nice little resume here. You still can't stand the fact that I am better than you can you? Even with all of my injuries I have been able to put together a resume that over shadows yours. I have built a legacy that puts your to shame! So is Angelo Valour going to come to your aid again this week? Is that how this is going to go down Steve? You waltz into the UWL out of no where and beat me again? What will that prove Steve? Huh? Nothing that's what! You're a nobody to everyone in the UWL. Just some over sized freak who hung out with Alan Christopher! You're fucking nothing! It's been 6 years since you "beat" me and you haven't been in the ring in over 5 years yourself Steve. I'm at the top of my game. I'm in my PRIME! The referee isn't on your pay roll Steve. Angelo Valour isn't walking through that door again! People just don't fear you like they once did."
Joe crosses his arms.
"In fact Steve, do you know what will be fun to watch? You melting down when I beat you this time. Why don't you just tell the truth for once. This has nothing to do with money. This has nothing to do with the sale of the ESW. This is about you clinging to the top position in the family. You like being the best in the family, holding it over everyone's head as you beat your chest and scream at the top of your lungs how great you were..........were Steve. After this week. The Sinclair family......gets a new patriarch and his name is Joe Jones! I'll see you in Philly Steve. It's time to put this to rest once and for all."
Fade out.
