"Are you sure we are going in the right direction?" The camera man asks as Kip, the camera man and 2 huge body guards follow Kip through a maze of paths and trails in the woods somewhere south of Knoxville.
Kip stops and looks at his map, a set of directions Steve texted Kip Saturday night where to meet him. Kip double checks the map.
Kip "Okay? So we went over the wooden bridge..."
Camera man "Those four logs over the creek was a bridge?"
Kip "I'm thinking it was. We went past the barn. Billy's El Camino was in there so I'm pretty sure that's the barn he's talking about."
Camera Man "The one that was falling in on it's self?"
Kip "We found the old milk can and followed the path so...."
Kip looks up from his map and looks around.
Kip "It should be just up around there."
Camera Man "I heard that before."
So Kip, the Camera man who we will call Brent because when was the last time you heard of the name Brent? And Kip's two unnamed body guards who are two big old boys are trudging through the woods to find this meeting place that Steve picked out to talk to Kip about Billy and what happened Saturday night. But finding this place is starting to be a little challenge. They have walked for close to a hour now through critter infested forest and camera man Brent is starting to get tired out from lugging all of the crap he needs with him. The two big body guards who could lend a hand and carry some of the stuff told Brent that they weren't "hired to do that." But finally the journey has come to a end.
As they trek up a hill at the top of the hill is this old small stone cabin with a bench sitting by the front door. It's over grown around the cabin as the forest tries to claim the cabin and hide it from everyone. You can tell that the cabin is getting used as the path in and out of it is worn down. Kip is glad to finally have found this place. He walks up to the door way of the cabin. There is no door on it. He knocks on the casing if there was a door and pokes his head into it.
Kip "Steve?"
Inside the single room cabin Steve Sinclair is kneeling down in front of the fireplace where he has built a small fire, the only light source in the cabin. Steve stands up and turns towards Kip.
Steve "Kip! Glad you made it! Come on in."
Kip "Oh so you want to do the interview in here?"
The cabin is tiny. 15 by 12 maybe. In front of the fireplace is a black leather chair and black leather couch and a end table by each. The old wooden planks that make up the floor are all beat up and dirty.
Steve "Yeah. Why not?"
Kip "Okay..... Come on guys."
Everyone piles into the little cabin and Brent quickly sets up as Steve takes a tea pot that was hanging over the fire and pours himself a cup of hot water. As he sits down he dips a tea bag into his cup. Kip makes sure his mic is working and he sits across from Steve in the chair. The two body guards stand ready to go by the door. Steve takes a sip of his tea and glances over at the two guys and smirks a little.
Kip "Ready Brent?"
Brent "Yup!"
Kip "Okay. Mic check. Okay. Steve you ready?"
Steve sips from his tea and nods.
Kip "Okay here we go!"
Steve sets his tea cup on it's saucer as Kip begins.
Kip "Hello UWL fans! I'm Kip Anderson coming to you live from....well I'm not sure where we are but we have trekked through the woods for an hour to find the manager for one half of the ULW tag team champions NASCAR Billy. My guest for today is one of the biggest guys to ever step into the UWL. Seven feet four inches 500 pounds of bone snapping power. He is Steve Sinclair."
Steve cocks his head to the side surprised by the intro that Kip just gave him.
Kip "Now we had a slight run Saturday night at the TV tapings for FSN."
Steve "And again Kip. I am sorry for that." Steve chimes in with.
Kip "And like I said on the phone the other day. I'm willing to let that go if you answer my questions that I have about you and NASCAR Billy because I am here to tell the story about what is going on here."
Steve "The story?"
Kip "For weeks now. Ever since you showed up in the UWL as the personal ring announcer for the new 2 time TV champion Alan Christopher and setting your sights on Joe Jones in settling some old business between you two, you have been bullying NASCAR Billy around."
Steve "I wouldn't say I am bullying the kid. I like to think that I am making the kid tougher. Showing him some tough love if you will."
Kip "Tough love?"
Steve "Yes."
Kip "You tried to be his tag team partner when Joe Jones could no longer be his partner. You at first didn't want him to tag with Emma Douglas."
Steve "Who, as it turns out was the right choice."
Kip "Then you took his tag title. He stole it from you and you took it back away from him."
Steve "That title is not a beer coaster Kip."
Kip "You are constantly pushing each other's buttons. I have heard of I don't know how many stories of you two getting into scuffles backstage at the TV tapings, in the gym, where ever."
Steve "I like to call that airing out our differences."
Kip "And if what Billy tells me is true. You have rehired Jeffery Hatemonger and he paid a visit to Billy's distillery."
Steve "Distillery. That's a cute name for a barn with a dirt floor."
Kip "And Hatemonger destroyed his Still."
Steve "You can't be one of the best in this sport let alone the UWL when you are getting tanked every night. If he was buying beer and liquor I could put a stop to that by limiting his funds but that bastard is making his own stuff. I limited his cash flow but he is making Shine not only for himself but he is selling it on the side. Pro wrestling is not a hobby Kip. It is a life style. You need to life, breath, eat, shit and bath in this sport. You can't be distracted with making moon shine on the side and hoping to not get caught with the cops."
Steve takes a sip of his tea.
Kip "But Billy is successful inside that ring Steve...."
Steve "Is he? All he has ever been is the tag champion. He has had only one title shot at a singles title that didn't go very well and every time he gets in the ring against the upper crust of the UWL, The Evan Caravelle's, the Alan Christopher's, the Arch Stanton's. The Karma's of the UWL what has he done against each and every single one of them?"
Kip "Billy has had good if not great matches against all of them."
Steve "But he has lost to all of them. How many times did he lose to Archer? Yet when Joe was in his corner he would beat Archer and Emma every time. Am I the only one who sees that and think; How can that be? You look at Billy and on the surface you think, wow! He has been the tag champion since October of last year, he is undefeated in tag team wrestling. He's won twice as many matches than he lost and you think. That kid is a star! He's going to be a big deal in the UWL."
Steve pauses and takes a sip of his tea again and nods his head no.
Steve "NASCAR Billy, the current version of NASCAR Billy everyone knows and loves will never.....be anything more than a tag champion and once one of these teams that are gunning for the tag straps put it together and get their hands on the him, he will lose those titles and it will be a long long time before he gets on a streak like he is on again."
Kip "I disagree. I think Billy IS a star. Billy has a bright future ahead of him and he hasn't had the success that others have in singles matches because his focus is on the tag titles."
Steve "Emma Douglas was and is all about tag team wrestling. She and Archer wanted those tag straps more than life itself and would walk through a blazing building to get them. BUT! She is also excelling in the singles ranks. She has wins over some of the top stars in the UWL. They stuck her in that round robin tournament and she won it. If the UWL ever gives that girl a shot at any singles title, she will bringing it home."
Kip "There is no arguing the talent of Emma Douglas."
Steve "It is my gut feeling Kip that right this second in the UWL. Emma Douglas is being held back by the tag titles."
Kip pauses upon hearing that and is searching for the words to follow that statement up with. He is looking at Steve almost shocked that he just said that.
Steve "I know Alan Christopher. I have a lot of respect for him and I'm happy for the guy and the success he is having right now with the TV title and I am rooting for him to beat Caleb Hart at Second City Showdown. I am grateful that he gave me a in into the UWL and I don't think I will ever be able to repay him for that. But with all of that said. If the front office, the championship community, the powers that be. Whatever you want to call them, if They give Emma a shot at the TV title right now. She's beating Alan for it. Emma has earned that shot at the title too. If you were on Twitter during the week Kip, there was a interesting little debate on there about our new Heritage champion."
Kip "Justin Brooks."
Steve "Right. Questions were being raised if he earned to be in that match for the Heritage title. It was fun to follow Kip. Emma, if and when she gets a shot at one of the single titles, there will be no doubt in anyone's mind weather or not she has earned that shot. Emma doesn't need the tag title. She adds nothing to the tag title. Billy on the other hand.....needs the tag titles. That title made him not the other way around. So where Nanook was failing him, is that Nanook wasn't doing anything to help Billy....grow up and toughen up and get on the path to move forward and become better. So you want to know why I'm doing what I'm doing to little old NASCAR Billy is because I know he can better. He can be a big star here in the UWL. He just a need a nudge to put the right foot forward and start moving in the right direction."
Kip "Is that how you see this? To make him better? Beating him up, embarrassing him. Belittling him and forcing him to compete in a match that you were booked in. This is all done to make him better? Are you listening to yourself?"
Steve's mood can switch like a light switch. He tightens the grip on his tea cup and his eyes narrow and you can tell Kip just touched a nerve. Kip's two body guards take a step forward.
Kip "I'm sorry but what you just said is complete BS. NASCAR Billy is a star. You have to remember he just started wrestling a mere 9-10 months ago. When he stepped into the UWL he has had only 2 matches under his belt in his career! He won the tag team titles in his third career match. Considering that, you have to be excited about what he will do when he gains more experience inside that ring and grows up a little more. I find NASCAR Billy to be a breath of fresh air. He lightens the mood. Why does everything and everyone have to be so serious all the time? It's okay to stop and have a laugh and a good time from time to time. You know it wouldn't hurt you to lighten up some. Have a laugh now and then."
Steve sets his tea cup on the end table next to him and slides forward in his seat to the edge of his chair. He leans forward Kip as Kip's two body guards take a couple more steps towards Steve.
Steve "If you are going to stand in middle of that f*cking ring and say If you ain't first, then you suck.....you better be able to back that up! NASCAR Billy.....can't back that up! Every time he says that catchphrase of his, he is lying to all of his fans and to everyone in the locker room. That is why this week, I begged and pleaded with everyone in the UWL to give Billy a real challenge. A real opponent! That is why I lobbied to get him to face Justin Brooks!"
Kip "You wanted him to face Brooks right before his title match against the Birds of Prey!"
Steve "I DID! AND I DON'T REGRET IT! AND I HOPE BROOKS KILL HIM TOO!!!! And when he does.....maybe just maybe Billy will learn from the beating he is about to get and will start listening to me instead of looking to fight me! Because if he does, I'll show you what a real driven redneck can do! If he listens to me, NASCAR Billy will go down as one of the most dominate stars the UWL has ever seen!"
Kip leans forward and gets in Steve's face. "Anyone ever tell you that you are crazy?"
Steve smirks and sits back in his chair. He picks up his tea cup and takes a sip. "It was nice talking to Kip. You have a nice trip back home."
Fade out.
