Oh so close.
Billy throws the curtain out of his way stepping foot backstage after his match against Josh Eagles. He stops a few feet past the curtain and pinches his nose while he closes his eyes. With his other hand he runs his hand over his beard and flexes his forearm when he forms a fist.
"Damn it! Damn it! Damn it hell.”
Slowly walking in is the lovely Jessica. She has the rose that Billy gave her tucked behind her ear. She places a hand on Billy’s shoulder and rubs his shoulder.
Jessica ”Billy? Are you okay? This must be a tough loss…”
Billy sighs and opens his eyes. He looks at Jessica.
NASCAR Billy “Ima okay. I thought I had dat one. I thought dis was da night you know. Da night where old NASCAR Billy went from has potential to TV champion. I thought dis was the night where I finally showed something. It’s...it’s…”
Jessica continues rubbing his shoulders.
NASCAR Billy “Dis one is gunna stay with me fer a while. I put everything I had in dat ring out der and it just wasn’t good enough. Despite what Josh Eagles will have you think I do work out every day. I train every day. I just want to leave my mark on da UWL you know….I…..I don’t know what more I have to do.”
Billy shakes his head and rubs his eyes. Jess is still rubbing his shoulder and looks like she wants to hug him.
Jessica ”I’m hearing next week you will face Cory Chevelle. What are you thoughts about that?”
NASCAR Billy “Well Ima sure he’s upset. I see Joey returned here tonight and you know he stuck his nose in that mess. You know I dunno. Right now Ima not thinking about Cory, or Joe or anything. I just want to go back and watch the video of dis match and see where it went wrong. I….you know I’ll think about next week later. I’m sorry Jess but I just can’t go dis right….”
We hear loud squeaky wheels and pushing in a floor jack is the Jackman! Jess and Billy look at him like WTF? He starts to pump away on his jack pumping up the end of the jack where a full mason jar is sitting on it. After a couple of pumps the jack is topped out. Billy looks at the jar and looks at The Jackman.
NASCAR Billy ”Not now…”
Before Billy can finish saying what he was going to say the Jackman reaches in his pocket and pulls out a Snickers bar. He holds it out towards Billy. Billy looks at it and looks at the Jackman.
NASCAR Billy ”Yeah? What?”
The Jackman again holds the candy bar towards Billy. Billy takes the candy bar and the Jackman points at it. Billy looks at it and looks at Jess.
NASCAR Billy ”I don’t understand….what are you sayin’ Ima not gettin’ it?”
The Jackman then starts to walk around like a ape. Tickling his arm pits, stomping around, grunting. Jess then slaps BIlly’s chest.
Jessica ”OH! I get it!!! He’s saying have a Snickers because you’re not yourself.”
NASCAR Billy ”Yeah but I just had a match….a match I lost! Where were you all week anyways? I could have used you out there tonight you know! Listen I don’t want dis Snickers! Do you know how many calories are in these things! Ima trying to lose weight you know!”
The Jackman stops stomping around like a chimp and he reaches in his pocket and pulls out a packet of Skittles. He holds them out towards Billy. Billy shakes his head. The Jackman again shakes them and Billy takes them. The Jackman then pulls out his phone and swipes it a couple of times and then holds his phone up for Jess and Billy to see. It’s a tweet Billy made a long time ago and it brings a smile to Billy’s face.
NASCAR Billy ”You know….I think it is time to taste da rainbow! Thanks buddy.”
Jessica “Wait! Who’s Veronica Skittles?”
NASCAR Billy ”Oh..huh...no one to worry about.”
Jessica “Really? You tweeted her!”
NASCAR Billy ”I tweet to a bunch of chicks on twitter! I don’t know any of them! Jess! Trust me…..”
Jessica “Oh I should trust you!”
The Jackman steps between Jess and Billy and is holding up a Snickers bar in her face. Jess looks at it and looks around The Jackman and looks at Billy.
Jessica “We’ll talk about this later!”
Jess storms off and The Jackman turns around. Billy is looking up at the skies saying under his breath “Why me?”
NASCAR Billy ”Dude! Why did you show her that? Man….Come on this has already been a rough night.”
Billy swipes the jar of Shine and walks off himself leaving the Jackman all alone. He shrugs and starts to open his Snicker bar and brings it up to his mouth but can’t eat it since he’s wearing a helmet……...
