And we meet again.
It’s quite in the shop. Half of the lights have been shut off and sitting on a roll about stool is NASCAR Billy staring down at the floor.
"Saturday night was a roller coaster of a ride you know. I got to spend the day with Jessica. That was a plus. I got my hands on The Rodent. I put the Rodent through a wall. That is a huge plus. I took his chain….wrapped it around my hand and pounded on him till he bleed…”
Billy holds up his hand and looks at the bruises and cuts on his knuckles from the chain when it was wrapped around his fist.
"I sent a message to dat rat bastard dat he better think twice about messin’ with Jess. I doubt dat she will have to deal with him from here on out and if he does try to pull some funny stuff…..”
Billy forms a fist and as he does that a scab on his knuckle breaks open and starts to bleed a tad.
"At Honor and Glory…..I’ll make what happen Saturday night look like childs play. You hear me Rat? Childs play.”
Billy lowers his hand.
"And then der Chris Nichols. Lucky to have escaped with the win I see. Oh I’m sure after the match he puffed out his chest and thumped himself going “See!!! I told you I could beat NASCAR Billy!” to anyone who would listen. Saturday night you might have walked out with the win but you know something. You still ain’t beatin’ Caleb Hart in two weeks time. You and Bowers. It ain’t happening. Hell you two can try 10 more times and it still won’t happen. Caleb can have one hand tied behind his back and it still won’t happen. And everyone knows it too. Everyone sees dat. Dey see right through you two. So enjoy your little win Nichols. Next time. Da outcome won’t be da same.”
Billy hasn’t moved his eyes from where ever he has them lock on.
"I ain’t gunna lie. I would have loved to win Saturday night. Throw a wrench in Nichols ego. But right now….now wasn’t the time. Everything happens for a reason and dat match wasn’t made with me winning in mind. Dat match was a test fer Nichols. And he failed it clear as day. He barely defeated me. I mean barely. Much like his opponent Bowers…..he barely defeated me last time. Fools. Dey just don’t get it.”
“Jay has the vision. Jay has the foresight. He has looked into the future and in dat future I am the chosen one. I am the one anointed from the wrestling gods to defeat Caleb Hart…...when the time is right.”
Billy starts to rock a little on his stool. Maybe he took one too many bumps to the head against Nichols. Maybe the string of defeats are breaking him down but he is a different man today.
"When da time is right…..”
Billy slowly blinks.
"Dis week. I get to face Bower yet again. Jay is testing me…...testing Bowers. Da last time he won….everyone said I had a good showing. Whatever dat means. I almost won…...but I didn’t know at da time, I didn’t know what I know now. I wasn’t meant to win. Bowers was. Is Bowers to win again dis week? hmmm….”
As Billy pounders the questions of the universe Nanook opens the front door to the race shop and steps inside and he knows right away that something is off…...besides the lights.
"I am the chosen one. I am the one who is to beat Caleb Hart. I am the one to L…
O….
L….
Not Bowers. Not Nichols. Dey are fillers. Fodder for the amusement of children.”
Billy doesn’t hear Nanook slowly walking up from behind. Nanook can’t quite make out what Billy is saying as he is kinda mumbling as he speaks. Nanook gets about 4 feet behind him and stops and watch as Billy is rocking back and forth while rambling on.
"Is dis da week to teach Bowers dat he isn’t a good as he thinks he is? No? Push him….punish him? Okay.”
Nanook reaches out and touches Billy on the shoulder.
“Billy?”
Billy jumps too, snapping out of a trance like state he was in. He jumps to his feet and his face is white as he spins around.
"Whoah! Oh hello! Didn’t hear ya coming in…...how long have you been der?”
”You okay?” Nanook asks.
"Oh yeah! Fine. I’m just a tad tired. I hit da wall Sunday night, kinda of a hard lick. Tore up the front end. Been trashing on her ever since. Man I just can’t catch a break dis season so far.”
”What were you talking about?”
"huh? When?”
”Just now. When I came in you were talking. What were you saying?”
Billy shrugs and looks like he has no clue what Nanook is talking about. "I’ve been told I talk in my sleep. I think I nodded off. Why? What did ya hear? I didn’t say anything embarrassing did I?”
Nanook shakes his head no. ”No...but it was weird man. It was really….weird.”
"I dunno den. I know one thing. I am hungry! You?”
You never ask to ask Nanook if he is hungry. He is always hungry. He could be walking out of Golden Carol and if you asked him if he wanted to go for lunch he would say yes every time.
”I could get a bite. What do you have in mind?”
"I was thinkin’ of the Cracker Barrel.”
”Again? Billy that girl isn’t going to go out with you. No matter how big of tip you leave. Oh hey! Your account called me. What was this about buying a car.”
"Oh...You wanna see it? It’s a sweet little ride.”
Billy puts his arm around Nanook and they start to head towards the door.
”Listen after lunch we need to talk about this match against Bowers.”
"Yeah...dat has been on mind here today.”
