L stand for Legit
Home Federal Bank.
Market ST.
Knoxville TN.
Nascar Billy parks his Hellcat out front and climbs from his ride. He glances at the marble columns that flank the tinted windows and notices the one square of the column on the corner of the building that has the sign to the bank embeded in it. He runs his hand through his hair and takes a deep breath. After a second to gather himself he walks into the bank……
The door opens to the conference room and Billy follows ones of the tellers into room. She holds the door open for him and smiles as Billy walks into the room that already has a bunch of people in it. One person is the bank manager and sitting kitty corner from him is Nanook. Across from him are two people in suits and some folders on the table in front of them. Billy nods to the women and walks over to sit next to Nanook. As he does Nanook stands up and straightens out his suit. He extends his hand.
”Billy. Thanks for coming here.”
They shake hands and Billy nods.
"Yeah no problem.” Billy says as he sits down. The two guys across from him in nice suits finally show some life. The one older gentlemen smiles and leans forward in his chair. The guy next to him, in his mid 40’s and looks uncomfortable in his suit looks at Billy.
“Nice shirt. I like that.” He says. Clearly he isn’t a lawyer.
Billy smiles back. ”Thanks. Hopefully we’ll pump these things out by the truck load yeah?” Billy says about his Redneck Remedy Tennessee Moonshine shirt.
“Me too.” The guy says.
“Gentleman.” The older lawyer guy says. “I think it is time to finally put ink to paper and finish this deal. I have talked with Nanook as you both know and I think we worked out a deal that works for both sides.”
”Yes.” Nanook chimes in with. Billy looks at him and Nanook nods and winks.
“It was a rough road and lots of numbers have been tossed around and at one point I didn’t think this was going to happen but here we are. About to sign paperwork which will allow my client here to go into production and distribution of Redneck Remedy Shine. In a couple of months, your shine Billy will be on the shelves of every liquor store from the east coast to the west coast right next to your cousins moonshine. Customers will be able to buy a bottle of the legendary Popcorn Sutton Shine and they will also be able to pick up a bottle of your own brand of Shine and people will then decided for themselves just who is the better Sutton Shiner.”
”To be fair.” Billy says as he leans forward in his chair. ”There will never be a debate about who is the better Shiner. Popcorn is the legend, he taught me everything I know about making moonshine and through my own experiments I put my own twist on his recipe and I think he would be proud of me. This isn’t a competition between the two brands. This is me keeping the tradition alive and well. I’m just happy that today in America, there is a Sutton still alive and making Shine. At the end of the day, that is why I am doing this deal.”
Billy leans back in his chair. ”And the money isn’t bad either.”
Everyone laughs and the lawyer slides the folder to his client. He leans forward, flips open the folder and signs the paper by the X. He then drops his pen on it and slides it across the table. Billy spins the folder around and looks at it for a second. He picks up the pen and looks at Nanook. Nanook nods.
”It’s good.”
”If you say so then so be it.” Billy says and signs his name on the other line with the X next to it. Once Billy scribbles his name they stand up and Billy and the guy who sitting across from him extends his hand across the table.
“Tennessee Whiskey is so proud to make your brand of Shine and believe me Billy. Popcorn would be proud of this brand.”
”If he didn’t have a heart attack that I just went legit that is.”
“Correct.”
They shake hands and everyone else starts to shake hands all around. Billy just struck a deal to go big. Production on a scale he never dreamed of. Distribution that would take him a decade to build himself and it only cost him 49% of the company.
Once outside after the signing of the contract Nanook and Billy are slowly walking towards Billy’s Hellcat.
”So now that this is done. Are you ready to go back to your day job?” Nanook asks. They are standing on the sidewalk outside of the bank.
”Yeah but not as Racin’ Tyme.”
”Not a problem. Joe doesn’t want to wear that mask anymore.”
”Me either and no offense to Joe. But this time, I want to do this without him. I’ve been thinking. Thinking about some changes. Stuff that might seem like nonsense to everyone but to me…..means alot.”
”Okay. No problem. Listen Joe is off doing whatever he is doing so don’t worry about him. I have been in contact with a few other promotions. Want me to see if I can squeeze them for some numbers?”
Billy glances over at his Hellcat and looks up at the sky.
”Nah. You know something. I might be a boy from Hickory but Knoxville has been like home for me. Give Jay a call. Tell em I’m ready to come back and tear shit up.”
”Not a problem. I’ll be in touch when I work out a deal.”
”Good. The sooner. The better.” Billy glances at his hands. ”My knuckles have been itching and Ima fixin’ to scratch them across someone’s face.”
”I’ll try and fix that for you.”
”Good. Good.”
