Nanook goes hunting
The set up
The UIC Pavilion in Chicago where the UWL has set up shop for the night to bring to you the fans of pro wrestling, Pure Aggression! Outside the building above the main entrance is a huge banner that reads: “Are you aggressive yet?” Too much?
Backstage before the show and a nice spread has been laid out. Salad, meat platters, drinks, it’s nice and one female employee of the UWL, Jessica Larkin is slowly making her way down the table picking this and that to snack on. She has a busy night ahead of her. Pure Aggression has rolled around and the new Triple Crown Champion Josh Eagles is set to defend his belt against Cory Chevelle and the final rounds of the Next Level Tournament will take place and you know what that means. Those guys are going to want to talk and they will want to talk to Jessica.
After picking what she wanted to eat she turns and heads over to some tables that have been set up. She sits down and places her plate on the table and swipes away on her phone. She’s reading texts and what not and who knows what they are about but she is in her own little world right now, that is till Nanook waddles over with a plate that is overflowing with goodies. He takes a seat across from Jessica.
Nanook ”Hey Jess!”
Jessica is startled somewhat as she looks up from her phone.
Jessica “Oh hey….Nanook. I didn’t see you there. What’s up?”
Nanook ”Oh not much Jess. I’m hoping to meet with Gary Young here tonight.”
Jessica “Yeah? About Bill?”
Nanook ”Yeah. The kid really wants to come back you know.”
Jessica “hmmmm”
No love lost there.
Nanook ”I’m getting the feeling that you don’t miss him.”
Jessica picks up a roma tomato and pops that in her mouth. She smirks and looks down at the phone.
Nanook ”You know he’s changed.”
Jessica “Yeah?” Jess says with a hint of sarcasm
Nanook ”I know you might not believe that but he has really worked hard to change himself, to become a new man….”
Jessica “Listen. I’m not sorry that he’s suspended. To be honest with you, I’m glad he’s suspended. I like not seeing him, being reminded of our time together and I kinda wish he would just move on. Go work somewhere else. We’re not the only game in town. There’s plenty of work out there for him. He’ll be fine.”
Nanook ”True. Very true but like he told me. He finds the UWL to be home. He’s only really worked here. He wants to come home. He’s fired Steve…”
Jessica “Again?”
Nanook ”Yes, again. He’s gone to rehab. He’s not drinking as much.”
Jessica “He needs sober up and stay sober.”
Nanook ”He’s been going to anger management classes. He’s been getting help.”
Jessica hasn’t looked up from her phone once. She reaches up and nibbles from her plate as Nanook went on and on.
Jessica “Well that’s good for him. I still don’t want to see him return but that is just me. I’m sure he’ll be back. Gary and Jay seem to have soft spot for him.”
Nanook smiles and nods.
Nanook ”They do. I’m sure it’s just a matter of time before he returns. The new, improved Sutton.”
Jessica “Yippie hee..”
Nanook takes a bite of whatever he got. A minute of silence passes….
Nanook ”I’m sorry. Here I am going on and on about someone who left a bad taste in your mouth. I’m sorry Jess. My mind has been consumed lately with getting him back in the good graces of the UWL but they have cold feet which is understandable. How have you been?”
Jess glances up from her phone.
Jessica “Fine?”
Nanook ”Fine? You’re not sure. What have you been up too?”
Jess sighs and places her phone up on the table top.
Jessica “I’ve been fine. Just been working, like always”
Nanook ”I see. Nothing new in your life?”
Jessica “I sold the house if you call that news. I just couldn’t stand to be in that place anymore plus I’m never home. I’ve been thinking about buying someone else but I’m not sure.”
Nanook ”Well if you’re never home maybe you should just pocket the money, I would suggest bonds right now and when you find time later in life to spend time at home, you have the money to buy the house of your dreams.”
Jessica “Yeah I don’t know if that day will ever come. I’m a bit of a work alcoholic you know.”
Nanook nods.
Jessica “What about you? What have you been up to besides the Billy stuff.”
Nanook ”huh…..Oh I’m set to be a best man in a wedding. You remember Joe?”
Jessica “Joe Jones? Gee I wish that guy would return.”
Nanook ”Well he’s getting married!”
Jessica “Who’s the lucky guy?”
Nanook ”The love of his life Kenny. They scheduled a fall ceremony and this will be the first gay wedding I’ll be apart of. The next time I see him, want me to see if he still has room for one more? He would love to have you there.”
Jessica “Oh that would be awesome. I would love to go. I’m so happy for him.”
Nanook ”Cool. I’ll let him know. Well...this has been fun but you know, I’ve got to get back to work.”
Jessica “Yeah me too.”
Nanook stands up and picks up his plate.
Nanook ”You take care Jess.”
Jessica “Yeah you too.”
Nanook waddles off and Jess picks up her phone. Back to work……………………
