“Here you go babe.” A happy sounding Lilly Mae says as she hands her man Sutton a can of Sam's Choice Mountain lightning. They kiss and hug. Sutton pops open the can of sodie pop. “You looked really good out there tonight.” She ads as she rubs his one shoulder.
Sutton standing in just his jeans nods and smiles. ”Thanks. It felt good being out there. Even though it wasn’t on TV and all it was good. The lights shining down on me, the random splattering of cheers. Felt good.”
Lilly pats Billy on the shoulder. “And you didn’t look too rusty either.”
”No...no I didn’t.” Billy says as he slides a shirt over his head and closes the locker. Nanook waddles in at this point.
”Billy! You looked great!” Nanook says.
”I wouldn’t go that far.”
”They were impressed. Good outing. I was able to talk them into getting you on TV in two weeks.”
”Really?” Sutton says as he places his hands on his hips. Nanook nods.
”Oh yeah! Not only are you done with dark matches from here on out in the NAW, but they want to challenge you.”
Lilly slides her arm around Billy’s waists.
”I got them to put you in a match against two other guys who…..”
Nanook pauses and he’s about to say something that some will deem “not politically correct.”
”For a lack of other words, need to sh*t or get off the pot. I think the front office wants to push these guys, and not push them into the title scene, but push them out the door and Billy.”
Sutton smirks.
”I think you know what I’m getting at. I’ve got a crew set up. Wanna start this fight?”
”Hell yeah. Let’s stir the pot. Come on babe.”
Couple of minutes later somewhere else in the building Sutton is standing with Lilly at his side and in front of a NAW backdrop. Nanook is slowly pacing back and forth in the foreground.
”Ladies and Gentlemen. Boys and girls. Fans of the NAW and people who work in the front office of the NAW, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Nanook and yes as the name implies I am indeed from Alaska but none of that is important. I am a agent and a very successful one at that. In a short time that I have been doing this I have managed 4 different highly talented athletes to championship gold in their careers, and two of them guys I have guided to multi championships. While I have been in the pro wrestling sport for my whole adult life as a wrestler and on color commentary, but it wasn’t until a couple of years ago that I left the booth and became a agent and manager to some of the premier names in this sport! I have a network of friends in the biz who have agreed to help me build and train some of the finest athletes on the face of the planet today! Together, we have taken someone who loved pro wrestling,. Wanted to be a pro wrestler more than anything in their lives and give them the tools they need to be successful.”
Nanook stops and looks at Sutton.
”Like Bill here. When I found him at the county fair in his hometown of Hickory North Carolina, he was this young skinny kid who dropped out of high school and was working on his uncle’s farm throwing hay bales. He came to the fair like many people do and came out to watch some wrestling and do you know who was at that wrestling show? I was! You see I said some despairing words about NASCAR. I think I was bashing one of the all time icons of NASCAR if I remember correctly Bill.”
Sutton ”Don’t you ever talk sh*t about Earnhardt again.”
”hmmm the Intimidator Dale Earnhardt SR. I was talking all sort of smack about him, the sport because we were in the heart of NASCAR country and this little fresh faced kid who was 17 at the time took offense to what I was saying. I keep poking the bear and this kid, a kid who I named NASCAR Billy climbed over the guard rails and got into the ring with me. He was ready to fight me! He was….no, he is fearless. He does not back down from a fight. That showed me heart! And that is all I need to see from anyone who I am looking at signing. I talked to him backstage, discovered he grew up a Ric Flair fan. Wrestling was in his heart and if he couldn’t make it in NASCAR…..”
Nanook nods.
”And he tried, boy did he try, then he wanted to be a pro wrestler. I signed him. I trained him. I sent him to England to fine tune his training and brought him back to the states and here he is today! HillBilly Sutton! A big ol redneck from the heart of NASCAR country and he is here to put his career back on track!”
Sutton holds his hand up and cuts Nanook off. He steps forward.
”We can spend all damn day standin’ here flapping our gums about what happened to my career a year ago but there is no need to dwell on the past. After all I am not here to get the pity support. I don’t want it, I don’t need it. I am more than just a recovering alcoholic. That is not the story I wish to tell here in the NAW! But the tale I want to tell is one of a big ol country boy who demolishes everyone that is put in his way! Yes I came to the NAW to put my career back on track. Yes I came to the NAW for a fresh start! But I came to the NAW to make it a point that when you see Sutton in the ring standing across from you, you will instantly know that you are in for the beating of your life! I’m not this high flying fancy ass lucha guy. I’m not a guy who study the book of wrestling and learned every hold and move out there known to man! I didn’t go to Japan and spent a couple of years in some dojo cutting my teeth. Nah, I’m not that guy! I am who you saw the other night against Todd Morrison who didn’t put up much of a fight. I’m that guy who’s going to exchange fists with you. I’m the guy who’s going to tackle you down to the mat and rearrange your face. Dat is what I love to do. Punch people! I do it in the ring and I do it outside of the ring when you sit down in your easy chair and spin the top of a jar of my Shine and take a sip. It’ll punch you in the face and then in the gut! My name is Sutton and it will be name you will respect and fear here in the NAW!”
Sutton takes a step towards the camera.
”What I did to Todd was just a warning! Next week, Nanook here sweet talked Alice to line up two chumps, two bums who haven't done jack sh*t here in the NAW. Two guys to be perfectly honest leave me wondering why they are even collecting a check. Even google didn’t know who John Blade and Tim Stone were. Googled asked me for the answers. Why you two continue to hang around here is a mystery that come Meltdown will come to an end when I put you two out to the pasture. I’ve had to put down a few old heifers back on my uncle’s farm when they couldn’t produce anymore and the NAW knowns that they got a guy who doesn’t mind getting his hand dirty and it’s time to pick off two under producing waste of payroll. There is just so many roster spaces here in the NAW and your space can be filled by guys who will actually show up and do something at work and right now….I’m eyeing both of your spots on that ladder of rankings. I’m going to take you by the back of your necks and just fling you off those bottom two rungs. Those spots are already mine…..”
Sutton smirks and glances down at the floor for a second. He looks into the camera lens. His hair slicked back. Lilly steps forward and slides her hands around Sutton’s waist and rests her head on his shoulder.
“You just don’t know it yet.” Lilly says.
Sutton nods.
Fade out.
