It is Christmas eve and for most of America it’s the day before the second best day of the year. The day when you go to bed with a warm loving feeling in your chest as you get ready to celebrate the people in your lives. (The first best day is New Year's eve when you can drink non stop for really no reason what so ever.) Most people are traveling to Grandma’s house, Mom’s house, where ever or they are already there and have started celebrating early.
And then there guys like Sutton.
With his girl Lilly after winning the NAW Horizon Championship and celebrating the big win, they drove to Florida knowing that there is some extra time off between shows and why Florida you might ask?
No snow.
No cold.
In a RV park outside of Orlando kicked back in a lawn chair with his feet up on an old stump and a bonfire roaring away is Sutton and on the table next to him, a stack of pallets that haven’t yet made it way into the fire is a 2 litre bottle of Pepsi. The good stuff today.
“This holiday season thus far has been great. I accomplished what I said I was going to do and that was pick up singles championship gold in the NAW and I did just that. I have that belt, my belt up on the wall in there.”
Sutton causally points to the RV.
“We threw some lights up in it, we found a LED tin star at Walmarts the other day to tack up on the wall above it and we’re using it as a Christmas tree. You should see it. It’s awesome.”
And the fact that they did all of that sober……
“We’re here in nice warm sunny Florida for Christmas before we head up north into the cold bitter mess that is winter.”
Sutton takes a sip of Pepsi.
“But when the times comes to head to the northwest, know this. I’m playing for keeps. Freshly crowned the new champ and in the first show as champion I will defend my title. I refuse to go down in NAW Horizon championship history as a one and done guy. That shit, isn’t happening on my watch. I don’t care who has the pleasure of facing me. I am going to win that match come hell or high water.”
Sutton kicks his feet off of the stump and stands up. He picks up a pallet from the stack and tosses it on the pile.
“So while you might think you have just won the lottery Jack…..I’m here to inform you that you have no shot whatsoever in winning come the 6th in Portland. If you didn’t pay attention at Holiday Fear, then you need to come back and rewatch that event and watch what I did to old Danny boy because he threw everything at me in that match and yeah I left with some marks, some bruises and a couple of stitches, but I left with my hand raised, Lilly by my side and the NAW Horizon Championship held high and that is the exact picture the fans who show up two weeks from now will get when I defeat you in the main event, when I hit the Sutton Stunner on you, leave you on your back in the middle of the ring and the ref gets a sore hand pounding the mat three times. The NAW better get that guy some health insurance because he’s going to get carpal tunnel by the time anyone in the NAW can put me down for the three count.”
Sutton picks up his cup full of Pepsi.
“And at this rate, that might not happen for a while now. It will most definitely take more than some jackass named Jack Jeckel to get that job done, but you are good enough to throw in front of me while I build the Horizon championship and myself to be household names and the face of the NAW. I have only just started my run here as today I am the Horizon Champion….Tomorrow the Legacy Champion…”
Sutton smirks as he has already set the next bar for himself for 2017. Lilly struts in wearing one his Redneck Remedy tees and the Horizon Championship belt around her waist. She nuzzles into Sutton’s side as he wraps his arm around her.
“In the meantime, all you need to worry yourself is that this….all of this.”
Sutton looks at his girl. They kiss and Sutton looks back at the camera.
“Is mine.”
Fade out.
