Once every while, there comes some one special, that not even god himself had planned. Some come is forms of Presidents, Some fire fighters, Some priests. But then, There are some that are known as Wrestlers. The men of the squared circle. Some are great, some are not. But then there is one who like god to the wrestling world.
His name is
Green Man.
I know what your saying. Green who? Come on, every Tom Dick and Joe walk in and say shit like that. And yeah, some of them can back up their shit, then their are some who are shoving shit up your ass. And we all know those people right off the bat. They walk down to the ring, and before they even say one word, you like “Yeah right asshole. Hit the highway.” But today is different. And how so?
Let me tell ya.
May 17th 1955, some 46 years ago, Ted Madigan was born into the world. And after moving to the good old USA, A young Ted grew up in the back woods of Vermont, where his parents bought some land and built a log cabin. A cabin I may add, He lives in to this day. No, He doesn’t live with mom and dad, cause he bought the place from them. Anyways, back to Vermont. Ted’s dad would take him down to the local gym in town and watch some local indie wrestling show that would take place there. Eventually, Ted wanted to be the show, “Fuck watching it!” He would say in his younger years, He wanted to be the show.
After time, after the set backs, and after some years of training, Ted Madigan became Green Man. A six foot five inch stocky guy who’s only job was to entertain. And after some 19 years of that, He wanted something more. “There has to be more.” He would say. During that 19 years, which took him around the world three times, He never not once ever got a title shot. In his younger years, you know, the first ten years, He wasn’t good enough, or took to much time off to bring up his many nieces and nephews. All of which became wrestlers them self. And then, in the last 9 years, He was quote “Too old to be a champion.”
“Damn.” He would think. “Not even a TV title? Anything?”
During his first 19 years, He was loved, cheered on, the kids who folk to him like they flock to a Doink the clown at the fairs now a days. And now, this brings up to almost present day.
After a few injuries, and some time off, Green Man was singed to a new company, a federation called the RWF, runed by a Jusin. A long time friend. Never the less, he played his good guy part, Never got anywhere, got close to a few title shots, but nothing to brag about. But the time has come. After 20 wonderfully years, The old Green Machine, Greenie, and the good old Green Man was broken down. He was a drunk, addicted to pain killers and was a real mess. And on top of that, blew out his hip. Retirement loomed on the horizon. And he sure did. That was labeled, “The day the RWF cried.”
But the story only starts there. After surgery, after drying up, after getting off the pain killers, after all the rehab, after some time off, and after buying his own gym, He started working small indie shows. Once again, Green Man was back in the ring. But this time, He had bigger plans, a much brighter vision. That vision is, to become a World Champion. And another friend, took pity on him, and gave him a helping hand, with a twist.
Todd Rogers, and friend, who ran the all might and powerful XWA, which is ranked number one on a top 50 website on this thing called the Internet. Todd needed someone to jump the XWA at the time. Green Man has a big following, even being out of the spotlight for almost a year. He signed him, PPV time. Special guest referee, Walks in the big time face, walks out the most hated man on the earth. The biggest serve of all time, Green Man, Turns his back on the fans, and why? Cause the fans held him back. Damn, his is a 21 years vet of the ring and never once held a title, Till the XWA. Time went on, Feuds with Eternity, Chris Masters resulted in a small and quite Untied States run. His first and only championship. But that wasn’t good enough. Years of putting others over, did pay off for the big bad Green giant. Losing all the time isn’t all that bad, cause years down the road, it does pay off. Five star matches. Five star feuds. And he tried, Tried and did beat on many times the great JC Michaels. The five time XWA champion.
But it wasn’t meant to be. And Green Man stepped aside, till now.
A wise man once said, “There is no quitter's in life.” And Green Man is tired of sitting around.
Backstage, Wednesday night, The day before Thursday Anarchy. And the new guy stands by himself, waiting for his time to begin, kick off his ARW career. Kinda ironic, being the new guy and all, when he has 21 years under his belt, more than most in this fed for sure. And being 46 years old, He could be their daddy too. He’s all ready. The old green overall’s and white t shirt fit nice and snug around his belly. He’s built, big arms, good legs, can run for miles, which he does every morning. He keeps in shape by doing firewood at home in his cabin which is located deep in the forests of Vermont. But he does like to eat. Oh well.
The match is almost done. He starts to get excited, Been a good five months since he has been in front of a huge crowd like this. Rumors have been going around that Green Man is in town, and the gate figures look like people showed up to see if the rumor is true. Green Man sighs. He rubs his long gray beard which almost reaches his belly. He then rubs his hand over his head, His buzz cut gray hair stands back up after he brushes it back. And finally, it’s time. The match is over.
The crowd is silent, waiting. And then, the house lights slowly dim to green. Oh yeah, It’s Green Man time. The one trade mark that everyone knows about and knows who that is walking through the curtains. Tonight, no music. The crowd breaks out in a pop at first, They do love him, but then the haunting memories of him and the XWA come back to life and those cheers, turn to boo’s. Green Man steps though the curtain, to face the music.
A bright green spot light finds Green Man. He pauses at the top of the ramp, as the crowd both cheer and boo. He smiles, waves and walks down the ramp.
It’s all coming back to him now, not that it left. It all seems the same. Not that it changes. It’s the same story at every town, every arena. Some of which he has been in several times. Even those so called “famous ones” Who do you think they become famous?
Green Man steps into the ring. He strolls over to the other side of the ring, reaches down and takes a mic. He turns and strolls back to the center of the ring, where he scans the crowd, Some of which he knows and have talked to several times. Same places, Same faces problem he suffers from now a days.
Green Man thinks for a minute, He could he thinks. And why not? It is trade marked. He shrugs his shoulders. Shakes his head and the crowd knows it’s coming, They get excited. Green Man raises the mic. Takes a deep breathe.
And unleashes......”HEYYYYYYYYYY NOWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” Green Man belts out from deep down inside. His soul filling the arena, and every time he does that, it feels good.
The crowd cheers, yeah why not?
“You know!” Green Man says, He starts out like this. Like he was just sitting around and said, “Hey, I know!”
“Old Green Man was sitting around, watching some shit on TV. And it made me sick. So I thought! Well shoot! I can do better than that. And well! Here I am!” Green Man says then starts to slowly stroll around the ring as he address the crowd.
“You know, The last time I stood in a ring, I was being honored. I am a hall of fame! And that kept me happy for some time. But lets face the facts. I returned to the ring for one reason and one reason only. And that is to become a world champion! I WANT THAT!” Green Man exclaims. “And I will not stop till I get that done. I sat at home, on my ass, watching the shit on TV, HELL I even watch the ARW late at night. And one thing will never change. No matter what time of day, NO matter federation, No matter who it is walking around with the title, One fact remains.”
Green Man stops and pauses.
“They make me sick! You have some big headed ego manic walking around thinking they are the bomb! When in real life he couldn’t even wipe my ass! When I think back to the day when I put their daddies over , and because I did that, Their snot nosed son walks into town and he is a bigger prick than their all man! And shit like that makes he pissed off! And after some time of thinking about, Here I came! To the good old ARW! And why? Because I can that’s why! You have some puppy named Onslaught walking around with a title belt around his waist, And the little fucker has no talent at all!”
Green Man pauses. He has walked up the to ropes. He leans on them. Shaking his head.
“I know what your saying back there. The y guys in this fed. They are back there, watching me on the TV, and they are laughing. Sure they are, Hell I’ve been there. I bet they are even saying right now, “Look at this new guy! Who does he think he is?”...”
Green Man stands up straight again, turns around .
“I will tell you just who I am. I am a man, who busted his ass for the last 21 years and has not gotten one fucking once of respect. Did I ever get pushed? NO! Was I ever rewarded for my loyalty for working for shit pay in shit towns for a shit promotion? FUCK NO! Just what did I get for the last 21 years of service? A FUCKING HIP REPLACEMENT!”
The crowd is silent.
“After all of that, all the wars, the stories, that is what I have to show for it. A plastic hip.”
Green Man stops in the middle of the ring.
“My name is Green Man. The one and only. And for the boys in the back. I know you have heard this a hundred times. But this time. Oh yeah, I will happen. To the boys in the back. I will not brag about who I will beat every single one of you. I won’t stand here and strike fear in you. And I won’t stand here and issue idol threats. But the one thing I will tell you is, this. There is a man walking around who is the champion. Or was. Fuck I know, Ain’t nobody told me different. But Onslaught. Right now you are the man I have in my cross hairs. You are the only reason why I am here. I don’t give a rats ass about what you did, who you are, or what shit you have going on with Joe blow. All of that means jack to me. But what does mean something to me is what you are holding. The Supreme title. And that title, Will be mine. I don’t give a shit about any thing else. That is the only thing I want in this hell hole. You can walk around, yell scream, laugh at me all you want. Hell even make fun of my age, I don’t care. I have heard it all before. There is nothing you can say or do that I haven’t seen or done. There is no impressing me, There is striking fear in me. There is no playing mind games with. And there is no fucking chase the champion games. And there is no blowing me off either. In short, What I am saying., In due time, In a matter of week! You will face me in the ring! We will have a match! We will have a championship match! Your title will be on the line! And god damn it! I WILL WALK OUT OF THAT ARENA THE CHAMPION!”
The crowd is growing louder and louder, they kinda like this.
“And there is nothing you can do about it! So you better take note, Buy a note book, sit back, watch my matches as I get closer to you and that title. And plan on facing me and losing to me. And you can take that to the bank.”
Green Man drops the mic as he looks out into the crowd as they cheer him on. He jumps out of the ring and makes his way to the back.........................................................
