Monday morning and it’s a wet rainy day in San Fran but that didn’t stop Bester from getting in his morning run. After his 15 mile “jog”, Bester makes his way towards his workout space he set up and as he gets closer to it he finds a car parked out front of it.
One of San Fran’s finest in fact.
As Bester gets closer the door opens up and stepping out of the police car is a police officer. (Who knew!)
“Morning officer!” A upbeat Bester says as he has always liked Police officers.
“Are you Bester Freund?” The officer asks.
Catching his breath a little “I am.” Bester says and before he can say anything else the officer hands him an envelope. “What’s this?”
“I’m sorry to have to do this to you but I said I would as a favor to a old friend, a Detective Adams…” The police officers says. Bester’s mood instantly changes. He hates hearing that name, Detective Adams.
“He wanted me to tell you and make sure you understood this clearly. There will not be a trail.” The officer says. He looks Bester in the eyes as he does.
This was something that Bester was trying to raise money for, hiring lawyers and pushing for his cat, Spartacus to stand trial for the crimes he is accused of. This is something that has been in limbo for the past several months and this was Bester’s best shot at saving his beloved kitty cat.
“Do you understand?”
Bester slowly nods.
“You understand what will happen next?”
Again, Bester nods. Kitty death row is alive and well and Spartacus just moved to the front of the line.
“I’m sorry to tell you this but….” The officers says but can’t find the words to finish his thoughts. Bester’s face starts to turn red.
“Okay then, just so we are clear, no trail. Understand?”
A nod is all Bester gives him.
“I’m sorry to have to do this. Have a good day.” The officer says and gets back in his patrol car and drives away.
Bester is frozen standing in front of workout space and starts to shake, he rips the letter in two and wants to punch something, hard….
Enter meltdown mode.....
