Bester couldn’t help himself.
He knew he shouldn’t
But he just couldn’t stop himself.
Sitting in the “green room” on a nice comfy couch is a huge bag of Swedish Fish sitting on the coffee table in front of him, with all of the red fishys inside just calling his name, Bester leans forwards and tears open the bag. He sticks his huge paw of a hand inside the bag and removes a small handful of Swedish Fish and slowly pops one by one in his mouth.
“Boy.” Bester utters to himself. “Those are really good.”
Bester reaches back into the bag and pulls out another handful of Swedish Fish. This time he stacks the fishys, 4 at a rip and stretches them, to unlock the tastiness inside. He pops the stretched out fish in his mouth and is in heaven. Bester closes his eyes and savours them.
“That’s what I’m talking about. Oh yeah.” Bester says as he stacks 5 fish this time, pulls them to unlock the red gooey goodness inside and pops that in his mouth. Bester slaps his knee and takes a deep breath.
“God!” Bester says and this time, he just rips the bag from the table as he was putting it back every time. He slams his hand in the 1.9lb bag and isn’t shy about how many he has in his fist. He tries to cram all of them in his mouth. Bester slides down a tad on the couch and takes another fist full of fish. He barely swallows the first fist full in his mouth before cramming a second in his mouth.
“Dear god!” Bester says as he holds one fish up and looks at it with lust in his eyes. “I want you, so badly.” Bester says before biting off the head of the fish. As Bester stuffs himself full of a pound of Swedish Fish, and is slouched down on the couch and is thoroughly enjoying his time, the door to the green door opens and a pretty looking lady steps in with a clipboard in her hand.
“Mister Bester, We’re almost ready for…” She looks up and catches Bester snapping to attention, hiding the bag of swedish fish in the couch by stuffing it down in the cushings and looking some a little kid who just caught busted downing something naughty. “you…..Are you okay?” She asks with a puzzled look on her face.
“I’m fine! I’m great! I’m super okay! Thanks for asking Miss Nice lady! I’m good! Very good!.” A embarrassed Bester says.
“Okay? Great? Five minutes, okay?” She says.
Bester nods. “Yes. Five Minutes. Very good. I’ll be ready.”
“Good.”
Insert that awkward moment of should she stay or should she go. She decides to go. She says nothing, opens the door and steps into the hallway and closes the door behind her. As soon as she’s gone, Bester dives onto the couch and rips opens that bag and devours what is left of the Swedish Fish…….
OCW Arena.
In the Basement
In Nanook’s “office”
The room Nanook has in the basement of the OCW arena that he used to use for his ESM, is now his studio apartment. Every since Joe unleashed Chamber on The Captain and the Sarge and forced Nanook to sign over everything he owned to Joe, Nanook is flat ass broke. His wife kicked him out of the house. She was “slightly” upset. Everything Nanook spent building over the past 15 years is gone and the money he had in the bank, is drying up rather quickly as Joe is paying him the minimum and keeping his hours under 25 an hour. After taxes, he has nothing. The result is that he finds himself at the arena in his office in the basement looking at the walls wondering how in the hell he got there.
But today. Today is a special day.
The mail arrived.
In a flat rate shipping box is what Nanook has been waiting for. He places it on his bed, a bed with no sheets by the way and 4 comforters to keep him warm at night. Picking up a envelope opener off of the stack of bills on a table, Nanook slices open the box. Inside is a print out of what he bought off of ebay and inside the box, OGDA’s mask. Nanook holds this up and stares at it like it’s a pair of used panties that were sealed air tight to lock in the freshness from a shady website he used to visit 2-3 times a week and order from. A smiles starts to form on his face.
“Very good.” Nanook says. “Very nice indeed. Time to come out and play OGDA.”
“So joining me folks, is a long time friend, someone I have known for almost as long as I have been in this sport, my good friend and the new owner of Empire Sports Management, Former multi time champion and if my memory serves me correctly, still your reigning! Defending! BLPW World champion! Double J Joe Jones!”
Inside a small radio studio is 3 people. One is of course Joe and sitting next to him is Bester. The other guy. Sporting a gray goatee and thinning hair, slightly overweight and is wagging a silent war against diabetes is longtime co worker and friends Barry Burton. Barry worked as a interviewer in previously mentioned BLPW, but also in the ESW and he used to work for ESM when Nanook owned it behind the scenes, mostly with PR issues but has since settled down in Tampa and has a weekly podcast called Barry Burton’s Pod. A show about Wrestling, Baseball and the latest movies.
Joe “Thank Bar.”
Barry “How long has it been?”
Joe “Been what? Your BLPW World champion?”
Barry “Yes.”
Joe “Uhmm. Something like 4089 days I think.”
Barry “Really?”
Joe “Yeah, but, I mean, who’s counting?”
Barry “That is what? 11 years?”
Joe “11 years, 2 months and 9 days.”
Barry “Jesus….”
Joe “I don’t count that as the offical run. I kinda ended it when the company folded. So.”
Barry “I know, I understand but, I’m sitting here and it doesn’t seem like that long ago you know.”
Joe “I seem to collect just stupid, long title reigns. I have one longer than that one.”
Barry “What?”
Joe “Did you forget that Shawn Sanders and I picked up the BLPW Tag Team titles 2 months prior. And in the second version of the ESW, when it moved to Vegas.”
Barry “Yup.”
Joe “Tommy and I, still your ESW World Tag Team champions.”
Barry “Oh my god, I forgot about that!”
Joe “It’s only 2263 days so, not as impressive.”
Barry and Joe chuckle.
Joe “But come on Barry. Give me some more credit than that. I have held 4 other titles since those tag belts with Tommy. Most recently last year in Mexico.”
Barry “Now I heard about that. You finally got out from under that deal from…”
Joe cuts Barry off quickly.
Joe “That place and that company. No need to mention them.”
Barry “Got ya. You get out from that deal, finally.”
Joe “Yeah, cost me a ton of money, both out of my pocket and because I couldn’t find work.”
Barry “Because of the contract?”
Joe “Yeah. I was tied to the parent company, not the promotion but to the parent company and we tried to, work on something that allowed me to do what I wanted to and that is wrestle, but they wanted me to go here and there, places that I had no interests in. Promotions that I felt weren’t good fits for me. The more I said no, the more, angered they got. (Laughs) I found a place to go work, a place that I felt good about but that place wasn’t under their umbrella and they weren’t having it. I asked for my release, they said no.”
Barry “Yeah.”
Joe “Then they presented a deal of sorts in which I can go do my own thing, but they get 80% of all earnings.”
Barry “What?”
Joe “They said they would have to reclaim their investment they made in me. I thought about it for a day, I only had 2 years left on my deal and I would free, but they wanted like my future earning for the next 10 years.”
Barry “Damn!”
Joe “So…….that’s when lawyers get involved and I ended up sitting at home watching my savings vanish. I lost so much from that deal. I used to have a house in Miami.”
Barry “I remember that.”
Joe “And in New York. Had to sell them to get out of the deal you know. I had to do what I had to do but it’s over with now. I can go work for who and where I want to work. Do what I want. It’s all good.”
Barry “Well that is good to hear.”
Joe “So yeah! A deal was presented to me to make some good money in Mexico. I took it. Reconnected with Bester here and from there, we made our way back to the states and to the OCW. The life of a independent professional wrestler! Always on the move.”
Barry “Now. Before we get to Bester here. You’re not wrestling in OCW?”
Joe “No…..not yet?”
Barry “What does that mean?”
Joe “It means I could someday be in a OCW ring. Or maybe you’ll see me somewhere else, never know. I’m picking my spot I guess is what I’m saying. I’m not going to get in the ring for the sake of getting in the ring.”
Barry “Okay! Well that didn’t really answer anything.” followed my laughter.
Joe “You know me Bar! I love to play hard to get!”
More laughs.
Barry “Okay! Enough of that, not that I couldn’t sit here for an hour and talk about old times and the future. Today you brought someone who I have heard of, someone I have seen on STARZ lately, most recently the OCW Craze Champion and someone who used to wear a mask. But! Someone I have yet had to pleasure of talking to. You may know him as OGDA! You might know him as simply Bester! Bester! It’s wonderful to have you here on the Barry Burton show!”
Bester “Thank you Mister Burton.”
Barry “Oh please! Barry is fine.”
Bester “Okay, Mister Barry.”
Barry laughs.
Barry “Right! Bester! You are here today to say something.”
Bester “Yes Mister Barry.”
Barry “You are here because, so far this year, things have not gone like you have wanted to.”
Bester “You can say that yes, this has been a rough start to the new year Mister Barry. I have turned my back on my Rainbow Warriors.”
Barry “And there not happy Bester. I get emails. Phone calls. Post to my facebook page, The Barry Burton Show. Tweets at me on Twitter from many of these Rainbow Warriors and all of them say the same thing. Barry! Please talk to Bester! Please! We don’t understand! We are hurt! We are angry! Please talk some sense into him!”
Bester “I…..I have let them down. I have…..”
Barry “Bester. From where I am sitting, you, well. You abandoned them.”
Bester “I did. I’m…..I’m so sorry for that.”
Barry “They feel betrayed Bester.”
Bester “I know. I am angry at myself for this. I can’t believe that I did this to all of my Little Buddies. They trusted me. They believed in me. I was their friend and I, I threw away their trust like it was a empty soda can. I stomped on it like it meant nothing to me! And for what? To help Mister Zybala become the new GM?”
Barry “Yeah.”
Bester “I know now that I made a huge mistake. A costly mistake. I shouldn’t have gotten all wrapped up like I did with things that didn’t involve me. I am sorry I said all of those thing about Miss Hernandez. I am sorry for taking off my OGDA mask, for trashing that. Deep down, in my heart, I am still OGDA. I am still a good person! I am still that guy who will stand up to the bullies, who will knock down the meanies who want to hurt my Shooting stars. I am still OCW’s Superhero. But I have lost their trust. It is now my mission to win them back, to show them just how sorry I am for betraying them and I will make this up to them, each and every single one of them! I will make this right!”
Barry “And how are you going to do that Bester?”
Bester “Monday night at Masacre. I will be there. I won’t be having a match. That would not be right right now. But I will be in that ring and I am going to ask for forgiveness and ask what can I do to make this up. I want to make this right. I will make this right.”
Barry “Bester.”
Bester “Yes.”
Barry “I think that is the first step towards making this better. I believe that. I can see that you are hurt by this. You are a good guy Bester. You just made a mistake that’s all. I can’t wait to hear what you say this coming Monday at Masacre!”
Joe “When this is all said and done. You will see a better, a more improved Bester.”
Barry “I think so too. We’re almost out of time, anything else you would like to add?”
Joe “Barry! Bester here to going through some retraining and I’m sad to say, but he won’t be in action at Masacre on the 25th.”
Barry “No?”
Joe “No. He is almost done with his training and when he is, he’ll be back in that ring winning the hearts of disheartened Rainbow Warriors. But! At Monday Night Massacre on February 25th, I have a special attraction planned for everyone. “
Barry “A special attraction?”
Joe “I have heard that that show is going to be special and I’m urging the GM to mark it down and book a tag team match.”
Barry “A tag match?”
Joe “Barry! Zybala, everyone at OCW. I, Joe Jones, have the greatest tag team on the face of the planet signed to ESM. These guys! They are electric! They are the best of the best! Hands down, the best tag team in all of wrestling today! And they will make their OCW Debut at Masacre on the 25th. This is a event you do not want to miss!”
Barry “Can I get a name? Who is this team?”
Joe “I don’t want to spoil it, but you…..might see them this coming Monday. I will have to fly them in and that won’t be cheap as they are the west coast right now, but! You just might see them this Monday night.”
Barry “I can’t wait!”
Joe “It’s going to great. Trust me.”
Barry “Folks! We’re out of time! But tune in Monday night on STARZ to see Bester’s return to OCW and the perhaps! Perhaps the greatest tag team in the world today! I’m Barry Burton and you catch me this time next week where ever! You get your podcasts! Thanks!”
